CloudKoala Upgrades Connectivity

Updated: May 29, 2020

As part of our ongoing investment to upgrade all of CloudKoala's servers and storage devices from 1Gbps to 10Gbps connectivity, we are happy to show off our QNAP 12-Bay, 12Gbps SAS-enabled high performance storage device now connected via dual 10Gbps fiber connections.

We also have three of our clustered Hyper-V servers now connected via 10Gbps copper connections. Over time we’ll invest more into getting as many devices as possible connected via fiber, eventually eliminating cooper connections altogether.

We like fiber for its added security benefits, lower latency, added reliability, and it being less likely to experience interference from electrical currents.

And how about this surprising little stat: cooper can withstand about 25 pounds of pressure without being damaged, in contrast to fiber being able to withstand 100-200 pounds of pressure. Not to mention the obvious advantage fiber has in that it can be submerged in water, something we have no plans to test at the data center….

To learn more about how these features can benefit your small business team, give me a call at 704.293.8233 or email me at colin@cloudkoalatech.com.

Cheers,

Colin
